Do I agree with Hillary Clinton???
Sometimes, even Hillary Clinton gets it right. In today’s floor speeches, Senator Clinton kept reiterating the power of one. Rarely is the fake-moderate, pseudo-female on the same side as I.
But she’s correct. There is power to one.
Much of my day today was spent listening to the talk from the Senate floor. Aside from the ludicrous text promulgated forth from Barbara Mikulski, and her apparent lack of knowledge of the alphabet, I am convinced even more so that the conservative side has it right. The joke around town is that there is just one speech floating around the Democratic caucus. There are no new opinions. No new thoughts. No new ideas.
One more Senate seat to a Conservative, one more floor speech containing intelligence, one more vote in line with main-stream America; how wonderful that will be!

Looking Past Personal Opinions
Yes, to answer questions,I did post on the Van Wagon Blog. Yes, I personally believe in Van. The key here is “personally”. The overall objective of the blog is to promote the notion that we need a true conservative to fill the seat left by Majority Leader Frist. I am not a Tennessee regional director, the title was given to me in error. I work in Washington DC and decided to use my insight to hopefully shed some light on the great need for one conservative. Staff from all Senate candidates will be invited to post. Coming very soon will be an incredibly fair pro/con list of the candidates.
As aside note, those of us in politics have opinions. Some we hold with the majority and some are those we keep quietly in our thoughts. Having opinions, having beliefs we act upon and encourage should never be a bad thing. My personal beliefs are many. One of them happens to be that a TRUE conservative should hold this seat. Again, that is the purpose of this blog. Check it out, if you don’t believe me, don’t read it. But don’t think that just because certain people are unable to see past their personal views and envision a greater goal, that all politically minded are unable to do so.

The Politics of Spin
Before I started my job in Washington, DC, I had these great theories about the Republican Party and politics in general. I really thought that the party of the big tent could come together and agree on certain things. One of those, I assumed, would be the need for a genuine conservative to fill the vacancy of Majority Leader Frist. How quickly I learned that the ideas of Reagan, the belief that it did not matter who got the glory as long as the ideas were promoted, were preached in theory but not acted upon in practice.
I am still disappointed in my fellow Republicans. As the recent party-line vote on an incredible Judge proves, partisan politics is nastier than ever. Partisan politics is not a bad thing, there are genuine differences between the two parties; but there is becoming a clear divide within the Republican Party. Elections are good, primary elections are good, but if they come at a cost that is too high, I wonder what happens next.
This election almost immediately became about spin. I understand the need for spin but it always stuck me as a last-ditch effort. Spin was for those who had no other option because the people weren't buying the truth. Anonymous recently posted the question: "Ashley, will you be disclosing to your readers that you are the regional youth campaign chairman for Young Conservatives for Van Hilleary?" Well, poster-that-will-not-leave-your-name-with-an-opinion, I am not a regional director for Van Hilleary. I am a conservative Republican who daily sees the need for one more conservative voice in this fight. One more conservative voice. One more voice fighting for the morals and values of Tennessee's conservatives. I am disappointed that this day and age refuses to believe one can be in politics and still see the bigger picture. Anonymous, I hope you realize this is about higher purposes, great goals, and the future of the State and the Union. Let's not sink to make this about spin. Our party is better than that.

Welcome to "One Conservative Now"
The inspiration behind creating “One Conservative Now” is the current political climate in the Republican Primary contest to replace Majority Leader Bill Frist as Tennessee’s next United States Senator. As a lifelong Tennessean and a constituent of Senator Frist’s for the past eleven years, I could not imagine our State’s citizens electing anyone other than a Reaganite conservative to be his successor. Right now, there are four candidates vying for the Republican nomination: former Congressmen Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary, former Chattanooga mayor Bob Corker, and Lakeland resident Jeff Moder.
For the next several months, I plan to offer not only my insight on this race, but to allow many of my fellow Tennesseans to do the same. I encourage everyone who passes across this blog’s pages to provide their input. This blog will cover news from the different political candidates in the Senate race, as well as pertinent news and events regarding the race and the current state of our Nation.
With that said, I chose the title “One Conservative Now” for a crucial reason. I think it is imperative that we conservatives work to ensure that the principles embraced by our Founders -- a small but strong federal government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and optimistic hope for future generations -- are well-represented in Washington, D.C. In order to do this, we must realize that as Tennessee conservatives, we need to stand together in support of one candidate who can carry the torch to be passed along by Senator Frist. I am confident that in the coming months, we will realize which candidate will best serve our needs. That is the essence of this blog, to set an objective: Rally Tennessee Republicans behind ONE conservative candidate…and do it now. Let us now decide who that will be…
